HERMON FARAHI - FOUNDER & Principal
Hermon is an award-winning, first-generation Iranian Korean American filmmaker, multidisciplinary creative director, scholar-activist, political strategist, community organizer, and former candidate for U.S. Congress (NV-03), trained as a cultural anthropologist and documentarian grounded in critical race theory and decolonial praxis (MA, The George Washington University, D.C.). His lived experience raised in a multicultural immigrant family has deeply informed his work as a storyteller and change-agent. Faced with family separation due to the “Muslim ban”, Hermon was inspired to run for Congress, ultimately suspending his campaign to work on the Emmy-nominated, Academy Award-shortlisted Netflix Original Documentary, Knock Down The House, winner of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival Favorite Award, featuring Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rep. Cori Bush. As a senior advisor to Rep. Cori Bush, Hermon’s polymathic skill-set, serving as media director, and de-facto political director, helped propel her 2020 campaign to a historic victory over a 52-year political dynasty to become Missouri’s first Black Congresswoman.
Genuinely committed to inclusion and antiracism, Hermon has collaborated with many impacted BIPOC communities, locally and globally, earning several honorary cultural namesakes, including those of the Rastafarian diaspora, and the Inuvialuit, Chamoru, Maasai, and Gurung indigenous peoples. His award-winning feature film debut, When They Awake, a decolonial indigenous music documentary, has screened in 50+ International Film Festivals. He has conducted front-line fieldwork with many impacted BIPOC populations in the U.S., its unincorporated colonial territories in the Pacific, and in several post-conflict settings internationally, including Rwanda, Liberia, Morocco, Egypt, Colombia, El Salvador, and Nepal - working on issues from racial justice movement building, to refugee asylum, and sustainable socio-economic development. He has consulted on global initiatives for international organizations such as The World Bank and USAID, led ad campaigns for Fortune 500 companies, and has worked to amplify the mission of several grassroots, non-profit, and community organizations, even leading a film expedition to Mt. Everest on behalf of a cancer foundation.
A graceful communicator, leader, and team builder, Hermon inspires as a public speaker, empathetic listener, and facilitator, creating inclusive spaces for transformative dialogue. Passionately committed to social justice and progressive change, his multifaceted work is testimony to this ethos. Hermon currently serves on the board of Cinema Without Borders, a non-profit international film inclusion organization. He is also an ethnomusicologist and master percussionist who’s performed internationally across the genres of jazz, blues, reggae, afrobeat, and EDM.
